The Rim Area Neighborhood is teaming up with the Museum of Cultural Affairs Department and UTEP art students for a public sculpture challenge to enhance the new roundabout on Rim Road.

The project kicked off on Thursday, August 30th with a meeting at MCAD. Students in the Art Sculpture Department of UTEP attended a presentation by Aidee Cosmee, the Public Art Program Supervisor, This project will provides them with real world experience in developing municipal art. Angel Cabrales, visiting assistant professor in sculpture at UTEP, is overseeing the students on the project.

The students later made a site visit to the Rim Roundabout and recieved a brief historic overview of this significant location. The project will be fully integrated into the Sculptural Curriculum and after a number of milestones in which the neighborhood will participate in voting, the winning sculpture will be unveiled as a gift to the community during the week of December 10th.

This is the inaugural sculpture for this project in partnership with the City of El Paso Capital Improvements Department, the Museum of Cultural Affairs Department, the University of Texas at El Paso, and the Rim Area Neighborhood.
